About the Artist
I’ve always had a love of photography, even as a very young child, but it didn’t truly become my passion until after my first daughter was born. I became obsessed with trying to capture all her quirky little expressions not to mention all those monumental “firsts” of new baby. Three more daughters followed the first, and the photo albums filled the house. In 1992, I made a life changing decision to start my own photography business.
On February 11, 2002 a horrific event changed my life forever. My husband and our four daughters took a vacation to Las Vegas together. After the plane landed in Minneapolis, we dropped my two oldest daughters off and the four of us continued home to Wisconsin. On the way, we were involved in a tragic automobile accident that claimed the life of my husband Bob and our fourteen year old daughter, Kayla. My twelve year old daughter Danielle and I were air lifted to different hospitals for emergency surgery. Although the days since February 11th have been filled with pain and grief, they have also been filled with love; not only the love of my family and friends, but the love and support of my clients that have become like family to me over the years. My passion for photography has been a source of healing. Every time I get to hold a newborn after a session or get bear hugs from an exuberant toddler, my heart heals a little. Watching families come together and high school seniors take their place in the world is life affirming. I am so blessed to have a career as a photographer. I get to be with people during the most important times in their life, celebrating births, graduations, weddings and family gatherings. Photographers are preservers of family memories. When you lose a loved one, your photographs of them become priceless gifts beyond imagination.
Life is full of blessings, and my life has been full of many new blessings. To start, in the fall of 2003 I met Al. He most certainly is my rock, my soul mate. We share the same love of adventure, and he enjoys my passion for photography. He is right there helping me all the way.
My blessings continued when my two eldest daughters Jessica and Stacey met and married wonderful men, Cory and Paul. Since their marriages, our family has expanded greatly. In addition to getting a great son-in-law from Jessica’s wedding, we welcomed his daughters into our lives, Samantha, 17, and Madalyn, 14. Since then, Jessica gave birth to Adam Robert Randall in July, 2007 and Ellis Elizabeth Olivia in August 2009. Stacey also has two children, Oliver Nels born in October 2007, just three months after his cousin Adam was born, and the newest addition to the family, Grayden Robert, born in July 2010. All my friends told me being a grandparent was incredible, but I really couldn’t even begin to fathom how much love they have brought to our lives.
On August 27th 2011 Danielle will marry Cameron Carson, and I am so excited to have him in our family. I also can’t wait for all of us to be together for their wedding because when we’re together, there is no shortage of laughter and chaos.
My life in recent years has been an incredible journey filled with happiness and teeming with love, but it would be false to say that it has all been easy. In 2006, my father passed away at the age of 93. His favorite saying was, “If you take the good and bad in life and mix it up, you’ll come out even.” I guess I’m pretty lucky that I’ve had a lot more good than bad.
